I’m training for my first 50k race currently, wearing an old pair of Salomon 3D XA that needs to be replaced, and I was looking for more of a running shoe and less of a running/hiking hybrid. So I got very excited when I first saw those!

Full disclaimer, I am a lululemon employee and didn’t pay full price for these. I’m sure you can get better bang for your buck with more specialised brands, but I was curious to give these a try!

I ran 50km on a variety of trails, from wide and flat to super rocky and steep uphills. They were stable and grippy, with the perfect amount of heel to toe drop for me, and not too much cushioning. My feet felt snug. The laces took some adjusting because I kept pulling them too tight but once they were on they were not going anywhere!

I tried them without my orthopaedic insoles the first time and I had sharp pain on the outside of my foot, which is due to the fact I supinate when I run. It disappeared when I put in my insoles.

My only issue is the colour - why did we have to choose between the ugliest colour combo on earth and WHITE for trail running shoes?? I’ve accepted these will get gross very quickly. Also, I don’t think these would fit wide feet very well - I have very narrow feet and they were the perfect width.

In conclusion I’m very impressed by this second attempt at a trail running shoe from Lulu!!
